Tinnitus is Nearly Always Associated With Hearing Loss

Tinnitus is Not Connected To Hearing Loss, The Myth

Causes of tinnitus?Tinnitus is described as a ringing, buzzing, hissing, whistling, whooshing or clicking in the ears that ranges in severity and loudness. Although much research has been done in the last few years and we are closer to an answer, we still really don't understand the mechanism and underlying process of tinnitus.

We do know emphatically, that tinnitus most often accompanies hearing loss. It also appears that age-related hearing loss is one of the most common causes of tinnitus. So the myth that tinnitus is not connected to an underlying hearing loss has been completely busted.

Tinnitus is a Symptom

Tinnitus is a symptom of an underlying problem, it is not an actual disease. At present, there is no known cure for tinnitus, the only proven treatment options that will deliver relief are sound therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. You may see on the web plenty of cures that involve taking pills or some super secret vitamin.

I am afraid they are all a scam, if there was a cure for everyone would know about it. Tinnitus can be quite debilitating with the sound being inescapable for some sufferers. This fact may drive some sufferers to try anything to return to silence. Don't be tricked by people who just want to take your money, however, there is treatment that will deliver relief for most cases.

Important To Have Your Hearing Tested

It’s important to have your hearing checked, because more often than not, 90% of tinnitus is caused by hearing loss. In fact, a recent French study showed that of 123 people with tinnitus surveyed only one did not have hearing loss. The British Tinnitus Association estimates that 90 percent of people with tinnitus also have a hearing loss. Moreover, research says that those who don’t may have a hidden hearing loss.

If hearing loss is the problem, we can help people. We offer a variety of therapy and treatment options, including sound and music therapy, stress management advice and hearing aids that can be of assistance in Aberdeen & Inverness.

Hearing Aids With Built In Tinnitus Relief

In the case of someone with hearing loss and associated tinnitus, we offer hearing aids with built-in tinnitus relief. All of the research has found that tinnitus sufferers can benefit from a variety of sound therapies. That is why many hearing aid manufacturers have introduced Tinnitus treatment options in their digital hearing aids.

Widex has a a fantastic sound therapy feature built into all of their hearing aids called Zen. it has been well received within the hearing profession and it has been proven to deliver relief for many people suffering with hearing loss.

Combined Tinnitus & Hearing Loss Treatment

The Zen feature allows us to provide a combined treatment for both tinnitus and the underlying hearing loss that it it associated with. In many cases just treating the hearing loss will in fact give relief of the tinnitus symptoms, however in the case where that is not enough, we use sound therapy as well to deliver the needed relief.

If you have tinnitus, you should really consider a hearing test to determine if hearing loss is the root cause.
