The magical WIDEX Sound Assist

The WIDEX Sound Assist has made a world of difference in my capacity to communicate successfully with students and colleagues in my academic and teaching roles.

Whether there was a lot of background noise or when several people were talking at once, I had a hard time hearing and understanding what was being said before I started using the WIDEX Sound Assist with my new MOMENT hearing aids. This hindered my ability to collaborate and contribute fully to group projects, something I knew was essential to my success in both the classroom and the academy.

But, since starting to use the WIDEX Sound Assist, I have observed a dramatic improvement in my ability to hear and understand conversations, especially in noisy settings. The device is very simple to operate, and the sound, when linked to my amazing MOMENT hearing aids is crisp and natural, so I don’t have to worry about losing any of the discussion.

The WIDEX Sound Assist has not only helped me considerably in my career but has also enhanced my personal life immensely. I feel more at ease and confident in social situations now that I don’t have to hunch down or ask people to repeat themselves as often.

I’m very grateful that my audiologist suggested I try the WIDEX Sound Assist; it’s made a world of difference for me. In fact it has been a game-changer for me in terms of my ability to communicate, my self-assurance, and the general quality of my life, and I am eternally thankful.

The WIDEX Sound Assist is truly a ‘Swiss Army Knife’ that complements WIDEX hearing aids.

For over 20 years I have suffered from hearing loss but found a family run business, Inverness Hearing Services, that has provided me with advice and support in the use of high-quality hearing aids. As technology has changed over the years, they have always been available to recommend hearing aids to give me the quality of life in being able to hear.

When I approached Geoff Bryce at Aberdeen Hearing Services recently, it was at the recommendation of two friends who were long-term satisfied customers. I am delighted with the performance of the Widex Beyond Hearing aids that I now have fitted; I am also highly impressed with the service provided by Geoff Bryce at Aberdeen Hearing Services. My hearing has been deteriorating for several years, due to a career spent in a noisy environment.

Consequently, in addition to increasing hearing loss, I have been suffering from tinnitus, particularly in my left ear. Accordingly, Geoff used hearing test tones clearly different to the slight sound of my tinnitus, thus ensuring an accurate audiogram. After a study of my audiogram and discussion of various hearing aids, I decided upon a pair of Widex Beyond Hearing Aids. Two days later, Geoff called at my home, “tuned” my hearing aids from my audiogram on his laptop, and decided on which ear inserts to use.

It is no exaggeration to say that, since then, my life has been transformed. I no longer need to rely on a combination of lip-reading and guesswork to understand what is being said to me. I was initially concerned at how they would perform in a crowded noisy room, but they work well, providing a remarkable balance between background noise and the voices I want to hear. They do not over-emphasise loud background noise.

A further concern was how the aids would perform in wind. If I am facing the wind, there is no problem whatsoever; if the wind is more from one side, I hear some wind noise – but it is not a problem. On cold winter days – we have had several recently – a woolly hat worn over the ears excludes the noise of very strong wind but still allows effective hearing. A feature of these hearing aids is their ability to be controlled by a smartphone, and they can be used for telephone calls or to listen to music, and to select various programmes such as one for music and one for directional focus.

However, I find that the “Universal” setting works well and that I use for most of the time. I now tend to disconnect the hearing aids’ Bluetooth in the car, and connect instead to the very steady Bluetooth connection from the car’s hands-free system. Having the Bluetooth allows you to check battery condition and to decide when the hearing aid stops, whether it is due to a low battery or a blocked wax filter. I recommend this useful feature.

A further option offered by Widex is rechargeable batteries. I considered this option, but given that even rechargeable batteries have a finite life of about two years, it is more cost effective to opt for standard batteries, which seem to last about a week. Geoff provided me with a generous supply of these – and wax filters. In summary, I am completely satisfied with these hearing aids, and I have been most impressed by the high quality of service from Geoff Bryce. If this review were for “Trip Advisor”, there would definitely be 5 stars for both!

I want to take this opportunity of thanking all the people I came in contact with when I recently came to your company for hearing aids. Nowadays it is not common to receive the level of service given by your company.

Initially, I experienced problems with the aids I had chosen and appreciated the reassurance from various people in the company that you would work with me until a solution could be found. Thankfully that is what happened and I am now happy with the alternative hearing devices you suggested. I decided to send this letter as I/eel today we are all too ready to complain but all too often when we get good service we don’t take the time to praise or say thank you. Thank you for visiting me at my home today in Steven’s absence for my aftercare visit, it was lovely meeting you. I would just like to take this opportunity to send you this letter to let you know how happy I am with my Widex Clear 330 Digital Hearing Aid that I recently purchased from you. I have been using NHS hearing aids since I was a young child, so have probably had most models from the early ones worn on a shoulder harness to their present-day digital versions. My hearing loss had deteriorated so badly that NHS had to purchase hearing aids especially for me that they normally wouldn’t use but even those were of little use to me.

At the end of last year, I saw your advert for trials of Widex hearing aids and decided to see what you had to offer to be honest I did not think anyone could help. How wrong I was, as soon as I was assessed and advised of the best hearing aid for my hearing loss I was astounded by the difference compared to what I had been living with for so many years… The first thing was how small the Widex Clear 330 is in comparison to my previous aids, then the sound, so crisp and clear with no distortion and no feedback whistling, I just could not believe it. The fact there are no tubes linking the aid to the earpiece meant my days of having to blow out water droplets was over. I love the fact that my MDex handset gives me the option to change programmes with ease and also has the increasing volume control, mute and the option to change the focus from front to back for sound… incredible III I’m even told when my battery is getting low.With my old hearing aid I never used my phone as I just could not manage to hear anything, now my MDex is paired with my smartphone and it is fantastic I can hear every word easily. I am so glad that I took the trial as this hearing aid has given me a far better quality of life.

I would also like to thank all of your staff for their professional approach, helpful advice and for the fantastic aftercare service provided. I am already singing your praises at our local Deafcare Centre. I look forward to having many years using your services and the quality products which you supply.
